Habitat for Humanity PartnershipBlount County Master Gardeners has partnered with Blount County Habitat for Humanity to offer classes in yard care. Some new Habitat for Humanity homeowners have little experience in caring for their landscaping. Through this partnership, Master Gardeners provide a two hour class to homeowners and potential homeowners covering the topic of “Caring for Your Yard.” The class addresses planning a low maintenance landscape, soil preparation, selection and care for the plants around the home, and helping the plants to thrive. It uses as a resource the University of Tennessee Extension Publication “Habitat Urban Gardens.” Class attendees are given the opportunity to sign up for more training and consultation with a Master Gardener if they desire. BCMG will work with Blount County Habitat for Humanity to offer the class in the early summer and and again in the fall based on the needs of their program.
