To provide innovative, research-based, and practical horticulture information to all Tennessee residents and communities.

Providing research-based residential and consumer horticulture education in a responsive and timely manner to augment and extend Tennessee Extension programs and achieve the Extension mission.

Collaborating with Tennessee Extension personnel, local municipal and nonprofit groups to offer educational leadership for better horticulture practices and programs in communities across Tennessee.

Fostering a vibrant and effective learning environment that supports committed and engaged volunteers and attracts new Tennessee Extension Master Gardener volunteers to the program.

Encouraging environmental stewardship, noncommercial food production and youth education in communities and cities across Tennessee through engaging education and outreach programs.

Investing in educational tools and events that provide information to meet present needs while laying the foundation to serve Tennessee residents and communities in the future.

Blount County Master Gardeners (BCMG) is a volunteer-service organization with the goal of training volunteers who can provide the public with research based information on a variety of horticultural topics.  

It is built upon solid visions, values, and community support.  In 2023, BCMG volunteers gave approximately 7,568 hours of service to local communities and earned a group total of over 1,087 continuing education hours in the Master Gardener Program. In Volunteer hours and CEU we donated a value of $208,902 to helping our community. This record of service, coupled with the receipt of the Search for Excellence Award at the 2023 International Master Gardener Conference, made 2023 a stellar year of achievement for the BCMG. 

These enthusiastic and trained volunteers help public organizations solve problems and make their communities more sustainable, more beautiful, more knowledgeable, and more fun. 

BCMG is governed by a Board of Directors. The Board of Directors meets on the second Tuesday of the month.  A general meeting of the membership takes place on the fourth Tuesday of the month.  

The monthly general meeting fosters a continuing education process for Extension Master Gardeners by scheduling local professionals to speak on a variety of topics - gardening, turf grass, herbs, birding, mushroom growing, etc.  These professionals share their knowledge and experience with the membership and promote discussion.
